A New Bishop for Prince George!
I left Victoria on a beautiful Monday afternoon for a flight to Prince George with a connection through Vancouver—it seems that wherever you come from, in order to get to Prince George you need to pass through Vancouver. Bishop Gary Gordon of the Diocese of Whitehorse had to fly to Vancouver then on to Prince George so as to attend the ordination on April 2, 2013 of Bishop Stephen Jensen, the new Bishop of that immense Diocese.
Arriving in this industrial northern BC city, I immediately became aware of the unusually warm weather—people were in t-shirts and shorts even though the ground was still covered with snow.
The ordination was a grand affair with visitors from all across Canada, including CCCB President Archbishop Richard Smith of Edmonton. The Diocese of Prince George did a wonderful job in organizing the events surrounding the ordination at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Gratitude was expressed for the 19 years that the former Bishop, Gerald Wiesner OMI, spent in dedicated ministry here. The First Nations People of the Carrier Nation prayed a traditional blessing over the new Bishop at the end of the Mass of Ordination. We pray that the Lord will give Bishop Stephen Jensen all the strength and wisdom he will need in leading his new Diocese which is larger than England in size!
