Ad Gagnon Usque Ad Gagnon
I left for Ottawa from sunny Victoria for another meeting in Ottawa; however this time the snow was receding and the temperature was climbing in the nation's capital. I did hear however that snow was expected after I returned to Vancouver Island! It’s been a long winter in Ontario.
Once a year the English sector of the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy and the Sacraments meets with their French counterpart. Ottawa was this year's location, from April 7 – 9. We discuss mutual concerns relative to Liturgy across the country.
It was a real pleasure to meet my very-very distant cousin (extending back in time to a 400-year-old family connection), Bishop Jean Gagnon of the Diocese of Gaspe, Quebec, who sits on the French Episcopal Commission for Liturgy and the Sacraments.
We use a little play on words when we say Ad Gagnon usque ad Gagnon in place of Canada's motto: Ad mare usque ad mare"—From sea to sea, taken from Psalm 72:8.
