Archbishop Miller 'saddened' by abortion pill approval
Press Release, Archdiocese of Vancouver Communications Office
VANCOUVER (August 7, 2015) – Archbishop J. Michael Miller said he is saddened and dismayed by Health Canada's decision to approve the abortion pill and called it "yet another way in which our society is eroding respect for the sanctity of life."
Not only does the abortion drug destroy human life, he said, but those who dispense it are also effectively abandoning women and girls at a time of crisis in their lives. "What type of counselling and support will be available? It is always a tragedy when any woman or girl ends her child's life. Now they'll be doing it alone and at home, using a drug that raises safety concerns and has undergone no public hearings in Canada."
Archbishop Miller said women who face unplanned pregnancies need more options to help them carry their babies to term. "Instead we are pushing them toward a single option- abortion by medical procedure and now abortion by pill."
He invited anyone contemplating an abortion to contact any of the several Lower Mainland pregnancy centres supported by the Archdiocese of Vancouver. "There you will find true options such as friendship, counselling and other means of support," he said.
