Celebrating the Ordination of
Fr. Michael Tran
by Connie Dunwoody
Saturday, June 10, 2017, was a beautiful day for an Ordination at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in downtown Victoria. It was the day Fr. Michael Tran had been looking forward to for his entire life.
Since the age of three or four, Fr. Michael remembers his mother teaching her children to revere the Virgin Mary, telling them that if any one of them felt called by God to the priesthood, Mary would help him until the end of time. As young as he was, Fr. Michael felt that this prayer was for him.
Fr. Michael came to Canada 14 years ago, and has worked diligently towards his vocation. Saturday morning was a beautiful celebration of his past, present and future ministry. “I thought that my seminarian life would never end,” he quipped. “But now I know that I am a servant forever.”
Fr. Michael indicated his robes, saying, “My chasuble looks new, looks fancy, today, and for a few more months. But please pray that it will get dirty soon ... and keep me in prayer so that I can wear this one until the end of my life.”
Fr. Michael, we wish you many blessings as you begin this new journey as a priest of God and servant of the people whom you will encounter during your life. We ask for you the grace and mercy of Christ, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, and the ineffable, unceasing love of God.
