Centennial celebrations of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima

Blesseds Francisco and Jacinta Marto, two of the shepherd children of Fatima, will soon become our newest (and amongst our youngest) saints. On March 23, 2017, Pope Francis officially recognized the final miracle required on their way to canonization. It is also speculated that the Holy Father will declare them saints during the centennial Mass he will celebrate in Portugal in May – joyful news to Victoria’s Our Lady of Fatima community! 

The parish has been busy honouring the centennial with monthly presentations on the life of the children of Fatima, a fundraising lunch, a Portuguese donut festival, selling centennial candles and rosaries, a children’s party, and a blessing of an olive tree adorned with parishioner’s prayer requests and thanksgiving messages to Our Lady. Please consider joining the community in May at the following events:

Wednesday, May 10

  • Mass (Bilingual) at 7pm with Fr. Eduardo Santos (reception to follow)

Thursday, May 11

  • Mass (English) at 7pm with Fr. Alfredo Monacelli (reception to follow)

Friday, May 12

  • Mass (English) at 6:30pm with Fr. Dean Henderson (reception to follow)

Saturday, May 13

  • Mass (Bilingual) at 7pm with Frs. Marinaldo Batista and Manuel Cardoso
  • Recitation of a living rosary
  • Candlelit procession
  • Reception in the Hall following Mass and Procession

Sunday, May 14

  • Mass (Bilingual) at 11:30am with Bishop Gary Gordon
  • Blessing and installation of relics of Blessed Jacinta and Francisco
  • Blessing and unveiling of a new statute of Our Lady of the Rosary
  • Social party following Mass with food, beverages, kids’ activities, photo booth by Party Peeps, and entertainment by Axe Capoeira
  • Broadcasts streaming from Portugal of the events taking place with Pope Francis
