Dish with the Bish(op)
Thursday night, February 7 at UVic. Met with about 25 Catholic students of CSA ( Catholic Students Association) andFr. Dean Henderson for the annual Catholic Students Week at the University.
Many activities are undertaken for Catholic Students Week and sitting down to eat pizza with their Bishop is one of them! It was delicious, and so was the conversation afterwards—a great opportunity to put the Bishop in the hot seat—not too hot!—and answer questions. Students are wonderful witnesses to the Catholic faith and are undertaking many different specialties at the university; they are multi-cultural and include those who are also residents at the Newman House for men and Bethany House for women.
I gave a little personal history for them and then discussed a wide range of topics often connected to life as a Catholic on campus and what are the faith challenges for youth today. I learned a lot from them and remain impressed by the faith of these students—what a great group they are, and Fr. Dean is doing a wonderful ministry among them. University students are an important ministry in the Diocese as these men and women are the future leaders of our church!
I thoroughly enjoyed the pizza, and headed off home by 9:30 pm.
