Dispatches from Rome: Day Five
On the fifth day in Rome, the sun rose to greet us with the splendour of nature. First photo, below
To begin our day, Bishop Don Bolen (Regina) celebrated Mass for us at the Papal Archbasilica of St. John Lateran. Second photo, below
St. John Lateran was established as the cathedral church of Rome in 324 AD, when Pope Sylvester 1 presided over the official dedication of the Archbasilica, declaring it to be a Domus Dei (House of God). The papal cathedra, or ecclesiastical seat, was placed inside, rendering it the cathedral of the Pope.
We then met with Cardinal Beniamino Stella, Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy. Cardinal Stella has served as the postulator for the canonization cause of Pope John Paul 1 since 2016.
We also met today with Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. There are currently 15 Canadians being promoted as saints. Photos, three and four, below
