Four St. Andrew’s Cathedral parishioners are hoping to ‘spread the fire’ after returning from Rome, where together with 50,000 people from more than 120 countries, they celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

Lynn (Dunstan) Weedmark, Joji Fortin, Fran Fagan, and Richard Dunstan were among the faithful who attended the Pope’s Pentecost Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square; two other events at which Pope Francis spoke; and several additional celebrations.

At a Pentecost vigil prayer service and rally at the Circus Maximus, Pope Francis described the charismatic renewal as a “flood of grace for the whole Church,” thanked charismatics for 50 years of service to the Church, and said he wants charismatics “to share baptism in the Holy Spirit with everyone in the Church, to praise the Lord unceasingly, to walk together with Christians of different Churches and Ecclesial Communities in prayer and activity on behalf of those in greatest need, to serve the poor and the sick.”

Some of the Victoria pilgrims held a presentation about the trip at St. Andrew’s on July 29, 2017, and charismatics in the Diocese are meeting to plan Life in the Spirit Seminars and other events for the coming months. For more information, call(250) 477-4700 (Richard or Lynn).
