"I was in prison, and you came to visit me."
Greetings, brothers and sisters, from sunny Panama City, Panama, where I am attending the 14th World Congress of the International Commission of Catholic Pastoral Prison Care (ICCPPC). There are more than 50 prison chaplains here, from 44 countries. The theme of this year’s Congress is ‘Are you the Christ?’ Discover Christ in the Crucified Today.
At the heart of this international Congress is Jesus. Our gracious Lord and Saviour has inspired in each of the 50 participants a real love that brings hope to the prison, offering transformation to victims and offenders alike. Through such merciful hope and love, a culture of encounter is created, through which reconciliation and healing are possible.
To bring the worldwide Church a greater awareness and sensitivity to the problems of people in prison, the ICCPPC stimulates the creation and encourages the growth of Catholic prison chaplaincies all over the world.
