Losing his locks for love
On the weekend of November 28, 2015, St. Edward the Confessor Parish surpassed its goal to raise $50,000 for the 2015 Diocesan/Parish Annual Appeal. Since the theme of this year’s Appeal was ‘i share, we Care’, St. Edward’s Parish Council elected to support the Syrian Refugee Crisis by joining with St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Victoria to sponsor a family from Syria. Our pastor, Fr. Luyen Dau, said that he would shave his head when we surpassed our fundraising goal. That stirred up plenty of excitement—and it worked! But ... who would be the lucky one to shave Father’s head? Fr. Dau himself came up with the idea of a raffle-ticket draw for that privilege. Tickets were sold by the Knights of Columbus after the Family Mass and during the Pancake Breakfast on that Sunday, and the lucky winner was Anna Kinsella, who had the great privilege and honour of shaving Fr. Luyen’s head.
