March for Life

 Dear People of God:

The seriousness of the recent Supreme Court decision to permit the killing of people through assisted suicide is certainly a good reason for all Catholics and people of good will to march for the life of the vulnerable. The most fundamental of the social justice issues is life; to take care of people from conception to natural end.

In support of this important issue, the Pastoral Centre office will be closed on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 11:30am so that Diocesan staff may have the opportunity to participate in the Mass scheduled for 12 noon at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, and the March for Life which follows. The closing of the office itself should be viewed as a public statement of the enormity and seriousness of the issues of justice, life and violence in our times.

As our Holy Father Pope Francis said in his homily at Mass for Evangelium Vitae Day on June 16, 2013:

All too often, as we know from experience, people do not choose life, they do not accept the "Gospel of Life" but let themselves be led by ideologies and ways of thinking that block life, that do not respect life, because they are dictated by selfishness, self-interest, profit, power and pleasure, and not by love, by concern for the good of others ...

... As a result, the living God is replaced by fleeting human idols which offer the intoxication of a flash of feedom, but in the end bring new forms of slavery and death.

God Bless you.

In Communion,

Most Reverend Gary Gordon
Bishop of Victoria
