Early this morning, June 14, 2014, it was publicly announced by the Vatican that Pope Francis has appointed Most Reverend Gary Gordon as Bishop of Victoria.

Bishop-Elect Gary Gordon was born on June 10, 1957, in Vancouver, British Columbia and attended Christ the King Seminary in Mission BC, and St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario where he graduated in 1982. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 22, 1982 for the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Bishop-Elect Gordon was appointed Bishop of Whitehorse on January 5, 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI, ordained and installed as the 5th Bishop of Whitehorse on March 22, 2006.

As prescribed in the Code of Canon Law, Bishop-Elect Gordon will take canonical possession of the Diocese of Victoria within two months of receiving the apostolic letters. The Diocesan Consultors will meet with Bishop-Elect Gordon on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, and details pertaining to the installation will be announced after that meeting.
