Ordinations to the Ordinariate

Friday evening, May 10th was an event humble in size but great in joy. Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Victoria was the location of a Mass for the Ordination of Deacons for the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.

Three men, Michael Birch, Donald Malins and Peter Switzer, were ordained to the Diaconate to serve within the Ordinariate that was recently established in North America to receive Anglican Catholics into the Catholic Church.

All three men will assist at St. Columba of Iona Parish in Victoria were the Ordinariate members worship on Vancouver Island.

The pastor of St. Columba is Msgr. Peter Wilkinson who very much hopes to have these men as priests in a few months from now.

It is also a great joy to have these Ordinariate deacons assist in the Diocese of Victoria once they move forward to priestly ordination.

The joy of the occasion was evident on the faces of family members as we gathered for a reception in the Church hall afterwards.

I also had the pleasure of presenting to Msgr. Wilkinson, the official document from the Vatican naming him as a Prelate of Honour with the title of Monsignor, for his service to his people and to the greater Catholic Church.
