Pastoral Centre staff donate toys to the Cridge Transition House for Women
Guest writer: Marlene Goley, Manager of Women's and Family Services, The Cridge Centre for the Family
Bishop Gary Gordon and all of the staff at the Diocesan office have blessed us again this Christmas. For the second year in a row, they have donated the toys collected at their Christmas office party to The Cridge Transition House for Women.
More than 100 women and up to 90 children come through our doors each year, fleeing violence and abuse in their homes. While they appreciate the safe shelter and support, being in new surroundings with little or no money at Christmas or on birthdays can be hard. Also, the toys in our toy room get very well loved by so many little hands! We are grateful to have new toys to put under our Christmas tree, to stock our gift room for moms to select gifts for their children, and to replace toys in our playroom.
These donations bring joy to the children and relief to their mothers. They also send a powerful message to the moms who have had to seek shelter at our transition house. That message is that their decision to leave and create a safer future for themselves and their children is supported by their community. At a time when they are feeling the most vulnerable and uncertain, they need desperately to hear this message.
Thank you to all of you and wishing you a blessed, safe 2017.
