'Peacemakers' in the Parish
On Thursday, February 23, 2017, the Parish Council for the Church of the Ascension hosted a Pot Luck dinner for the ministries, who do the daily work of ministering to the needs of the parishioners of our parish. The purpose was threefold: to share fellowship and a meal together; to offer a thank you for what the ministries do for our church; and, to participate in a survey to update the Pastoral Plan for 2017–2018, and assist communication between ministries, and with the Parish Council.
The message to the group was taken from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, the seventh Beatitude: “Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God.” We are called by Jesus to be Peacemakers in the world, with the humility of a child of God. Pope Francis has been called a Peacemaker. At the World Day of Peace in January, he said, “to be instruments of peace, we have to practice love and solidarity with each other … and our common humanity and Faith command us to be Peacemakers."
To be a Peacemaker outside our parish begins with peace inside our parish. Ministries were asked to bring Jesus’ seventh Beatitude to any difficult situation in our parish, to solve it with communication, love, understanding and the humility of a Peacemaker.
