Sharing our Journey of Faith: Parksville and Victoria
Off to Parksville .........
It was an early departure by car to arrive for the 9 am Mass at the Church of the Ascension in Parksville. The sun came up in Nanaimo and stayed bright with a February warmth for the whole day—thanks be to God!
There were over 70 catechists and clergy present from all over the Diocese for a morning retreat and afternoon workshop held in the church and in the new parish hall.
I gave the morning retreat on the theme: Sharing Our Journey Of Faith, based on the Apostolic Letter initiating the Year of Faith, Porta Fidei, and on the Holy Father's Lenten Letter, entitled Believing in Charity Calls Forth Charity. It was a great faith-filled encounter with much openness of heart—exactly what we are supposed to have during Lent!
Thanks to the organizers: Char Deslippe, Jim O'Reilly and Jamie Zwicker. These three also animated the afternoon workshop on the two-year sacramental program being initiated in the Diocese. Many thanks to these three hard working educators.
Back to Victoria ……...
I left right after lunch for Victoria and Mass at the Cathedral at 5 pm. A banquet followed in the evening at the Union Club in honour of the 4th Degree Exemplification for the Knights of Columbus which had occurred during the day. It was wonderful to see so many members of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus and their wives present, along with the 33 new 4th Degree members of this new 4th Degree Assembly—the Bishop Demers Assembly.
Special remembrance was paid to the late Christopher Pitt, charter member of this new assembly. Congratulations to the organizers!
