St. Andrew's Regional High School Update
by Andrew Keleher, Principal
St. Andrew’s Regional High School music students participated in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival this month. Our singers were chosen to receive the Adjudicator’s Choice Award for their performance and were then selected to perform with the top groups in the city at the Festival Honours Concert last week at First Metropolitan Church. Our students brought the house down with their performance (the finale for that evening) and really impressed the crowd! Our choir also participated in the ICS Music Showcase at UVic’s Farquhar Auditorium; we continue to be very proud of our St. Andrew’s Singers.
In sports, thank you to all who made it to the Jamieson Cup hockey showdown this month at Pearkes Arena. The students and staff played two exciting games. In game 2, the Class of 2017 (with help from Dario Greco) came out on top in a thriller. Thank you to Mrs. Erin Delude, the Athletic Council, the Sports Parents, and our indefatigable mascot Sammy the Sabre for a fun night.
Turning to fashion, thank you to the Class of 2017, Mrs. Sophia Palahicky, Mrs. Corinne Ballam, the After-Grad Committee, and all who assisted with the Grad Fashion Show—Camouflage! The show was a hit with a new spin on things this year making for a unique performance (hard to forget the ‘Hats’ number). A number of items were auctioned off to support this year’s After-Grad party and the students had a lot of fun with it all. Thank you for coming out to the show!
Some members of our grade 11 class were able to attend the Grade 11 Retreat. The small group was away at the Prince George Catholic Youth Conference. Thank you to Mr. Danny Brock for his work in arranging this for our students and we look forward to some positive reviews from the group.
Our Senior Girls’ Soccer Team will be travelling to Vancouver to participate in the BC Catholics tournament—more on that next month. Thank you to Coach Mr. Dean Anderson and his coaching staff for working with the team, and we will keep the team in our prayers as they represent St. Andrew’s on the provincial stage.
