Congratulations to St. Joseph's General Hospital on their 100th Anniversary!
I had the unique experience of participating in a weekend of activities in Comox, celebrating this important milestone.
The festivities started with a luncheon and annual general meeting on Friday afternoon and continued until Sunday morning with a celebratory Mass at Christ the King Parish. This was followed by an outdoor program of activities in the garden area of the hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The hospital was founded by four Sisters of St. Joseph in a farmhouse in 1913 and has since grown into a 250-bed hospital offering acute and extended care.
St. Joseph’s came over to the Diocese in the late 1980s and has remained an integral part of Catholic Health Care in British Columbia ever since.
The story of St. Joseph's Hospital is an interesting one, filled with accounts of dedicated people over these past 100 years who sought to meet the health needs of the citizens in the Comox Valley.
The Anniversary celebrations were well attended and very edifying to be a part of this historic occasion.
It was also wonderful to have five of the Sisters of St. Joseph from Toronto present during the weekend celebrations.
Congratulations, St. Joseph’s Hospital!
