Taking Care of the People

On April 17 and 18, 2015, the Diocese of Victoria sponsored a symposium entitled The Healing Ministry of the Church and Ethics at the End of Life, featuring Fr. Mark Miller CSsR, at Holy Cross Parish in Victoria. Fr. Mark and I also visited Courtney/Comox, where Fr. Mark gave two presentations to the medical staff, management staff and board of directors of St. Joseph’s Hospital. We also took time to see the progress of the construction of their new Hospice facility.

Fr. Mark is a doctor of medical ethics and Provincial Superior of the Redemptorist community in English-speaking Canada. He gave the 200+ people in attendance much to consider about the ways and means to accompany the living as they are dying. He also spoke of the many graces received, and ways that people at the end of their earthly lives can teach us, imparting important lessons for family and friends in the life journey.
