The competition begins ... the Jamieson Cup
The 7th Annual Jamieson Cup hockey game was held on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Pearkes Arena in Victoria, BC. This fierce annual contest, organized by the school’s Sports Parents Committee, athletic council students and teachers, provides an opportunity for St. Andrew’s Regional High School students to test their hockey mettle against their teachers and parents.
The Cup is named after Wilma Jamieson, who was principal at St. Andrew’s for ten years and was a great supporter of the athletics program. The ‘teacher team’ is comprised of teachers from St. Andrew’s Regional High School, St. Patrick’s, and Queen of Angels schools, as well as parents. This year, I was delighted to join in the family skate that precedes the game, and was also thrilled to participate as a player on the teacher team.
In the previous six years of the game’s history, the teachers have triumphed five times, and this year the teacher team maintained its winning streak. The teachers beat the Junior team 3–1, but needed a shootout to win over the Senior team 4–3. It was my honour to collect the trophy on behalf of the teacher team.
