The essential virtue of hope
On Tuesday, June 21, 2016, parish administrative staff from across the Diocese gathered at Sacred Heart parish in Victoria for a day of information and reflection. The morning session included presentations by Leah MacKenzie (Chief Financial Officer), and Fr. John Laszczyk (Vicar General). We celebrated Mass, and then enjoyed lunch prepared by Food for Thought catering.
In the afternoon, we spent time in together on retreat, and I invited everyone to reflect on hope, and how absolutely essential this virtue is. We need hope in all of its manifestations in order to do what we are called to do as Christian witnesses of encounter with Christ. We need a lot of hope when there are challenges, and we engage others in hope through our words, actions, and even just a simple smile.
We’re in an amazing ministry, and the parish administrative staff are our front lines. Every day they pick up the phone, and offer a word, a smile, a little hope, and I am deeply grateful.
