Claire Holmes
Sacred Heart Parish, Victoria

Claire has been involved in Sacred Heart Parish and Diocesan affairs since her arrival in the late 1980s. A dedicated worker, she has constantly encouraged others to share their talents through parish events such as the Christian Charities’ Clothing Sales, Garage Sales, and the Annual Bazaar and Book Sale.

Claire was Chairperson of the Christian Charities program, a member of the Pastoral Council, serving as its Chair in 1993 and 1994, been a part of the Synod with Bishop Remi de Roo, taught religious education, started walking group programs for Hospice with her husband, John, and created forms to assist parishioners with End of Life Planning from funeral arrangements to what specific and important information should be left behind for families. Along with husband John Tomczak, Claire guided the bereavement ministry from its inception in 2000 until 2015. In the community, Claire has also been on the Board of Anawim House, working with those most in need in our community.

In the words of a parishioner, “Claire is a shining example of someone who constantly shares her gifts and talents for the benefit of others around her.”
