Washington State Supreme Court - Petition for Review (Declined) The Catholic Diocese of Victoria, B.C. was advised today that on April 1, 2008, the Washington State Supreme Court declined to review the lower court decisions in the legal dispute between Joseph Finley and the Diocese. In 2007, the Diocese of Victoria was successful in its appeal of the $8.5 million judgment when the Washington State Court of Appeals unanimously confirmed that the Diocese had not violated any duty to Joseph Finley. The Supreme Court’s ruling means that the Court of Appeals’ decision is final, and requires that the matter now be remitted to the Trial Court, where the Court of Appeals’ decision rejecting Finley’s claims is to be put into effect. Bishop Richard Gagnon is pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision and looks forward to a prompt conclusion to this unfortunate situation. Bishop Gagnon expressed his thanks to the legal team, his advisors and all those who supported the Diocese in prayer and action during this difficult time. |
