Ellis Achtem
Diocese of Victoria

A dedicated Catholic, Ellis was a very successful lawyer, who came to the aid of the Diocese of Victoria during the financial crisis between 1999 - 2007. Ellis’ contributions were critical to the success of a $13 million Debenture Issue which allowed the Diocese time and resources to sort out the land deal in Lacey, Washington, and the resulting legal crisis. Ellis’s tireless energy, eloquence, determination, extensive network of friends and business acquaintances, along with his ability and experience in fund-raising made him the driving force behind the Debenture Campaign.

Ellis was not only part of the leadership team behind the campaign but he was on the ground, driving his little red truck up and down the Island encouraging parishioners to help the Diocese during its time of need. Ellis was able to rally key people to work as a team, bringing invaluable expertise to the table and was instrumental in saving the Diocese from serious financial harm. Ellis established the Debenture program and guided it to a successful conclusion.

Ellis was the Diocesan Finance Debt Repayment Committee Chair from 2000 to 2006, served on the Diocesan Property Management Sub-Committee and the Diocesan Finance Committee from 2002 to 2007. Ellis is always available to help personally, or to recommend persons with the requisite expertise, not only at his home parish of Holy Cross in Victoria, but also for the Diocese of Victoria.
