Joe & Carmen Gillevet
St. Patrick's Parish, Oak Bay

Joe was born in Ontario and married Carmen over 50 years ago. Together, they have nine children, and have served St. Patrick’s for more than 20 years.

Now retired, Joe and Carmen have been assisting and giving to the poor through the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the 9/10 Club. At the parish, they were involved with Faith Formation through the RCIA and in a Bible study program. Joe and Carmen have also been a part of the St. Patrick’s prayer group, helped and advocated for the needs of people with disabilities, have been quick to reach out to others in difficult situations, and can be found at the bedside of friends who are going through difficult health issues. Joe has also assisted new Canadians in preparing tax returns at no cost, mentored accounting students, contributed articles to Novalis, and served as a Lector in the parish.

Carmen was past-President of the CWL in Ontario, was membership and hospitality co-chair, and together with Joe, have provided car rides to many individuals who are no longer able to drive. In addition, Carmen has volunteered to maintain the altar linens, and act as a grandmother for the Moms & Tots group, welcoming many new moms to the parish.
