Christ the King Parish, Comox Valley
Mary has been active in the parish since moving from Toronto in 1966. She joined the CWL in 1967 and served on all positions, including as president. She has taught catechism, was the founding member of the Prolife Society of Comox Valley in the mid-1970s, was Chair of the Pastoral Council, and served on the Finance Committee. For many years, she coordinated the Valentine’s smorgasbords, feeding hundreds of people at each sitting. Mary continues to bring meals to bereaved families, and Holy Communion to the homebound.
Mary has been a stalwart member of the Diocesan Bonds Committee, the Building Committee, and the Diocesan Appeal Committee. She has facilitated Bible study groups for the Filipino community, is a member of the Marian movement of priests’ prayer group, and a member of the Ignation prayer group. Mary assisted Tucky Schellink with her Friendly Visitors projects, visiting the hospitalized and homebound, and helped to put together Christmas hampers from 1967 through 2015. Mary has also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, and has been politically involved in all levels of government to ensure that the sanctity of life is given priority on government platforms.
