A Listening Journey

3. From Synod to a Way of Being

Purpose: Explain the shift from “event” to “ongoing”

“Synodality is not a campaign. It’s a way of being and a way of being Church. It’s a way of promoting an attitude, which begins with learning to listen to one another.”
— Pope Leo XIV

This is about building a Church that listens deeply, walks together, and serves the world with compassion—where leaders and people alike share responsibility for bringing hope, healing, and justice to others.

We are inviting the Diocese of Victoria to deepen its commitment to:

  • Communion: Listening deeply to God and to one another
  • Participation: Honouring the voice, gifts, and dignity of every person
  • Witness: Bringing the Good News through service and love

It calls us to be a community that listens before it speaks, serves before it directs, and walks together as it brings Christ’s love to the world.

"I am inspired by the wisdom that has been shared in Synod 2021–2024 so far, and am confident the Holy Spirit will guide and direct us as we establish a Diocesan Permanent Pastoral Synod in the Diocese of Victoria. I pray the DPPS will unite us in a true communion and inspire us to participation in the mission of Christ."
— Bishop Gary Gordon, Pentecost 2023
