News from the Chancery - December 1, 2023

News from the Chancery is published each week to share information and upcoming events with the people of the Diocese of Victoria.  We have 4 items to share with you this week:

1) The Diocese is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Char Deslippe Memorial Award: Christine James, from St. Joseph’s School in Victoria; and Carmelle Whiteley, from St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Victoria.  Christine and Carmelle received the award for their outstanding dedication and commitment to religious education, and the handing on of our faith.  For more information about the Char Deslippe Memorial Award, please visit https://www.rcdvictoria.org/char-deslippe-award.

2) The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops is once again presenting the Journey through Advent video series.  This year’s presenter, the Most Reverend Bishop Jon Hansen, CSsR, Bishop of Mackenzie-Fort Smith, will offer a reflection on the Scriptures for each Sunday of Advent 2023.  To view the videos, please visit https://www.cccb.ca/evangelization-catechesis-catholic-education/video-resources/journey-through-advent/.

3) The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops  has released a statement on the non-permissibility of MAiD in health organizations with a Catholic identity.  The statement may be read online at https://www.cccb.ca/media-release/statement-by-the-canadian-conference-of-catholic-bishops-on-the-non-permissibility-of-euthanasia-and-assisted-suicide-within-canadian-health-organizations-with-a-catholic-identity/.

5) On January 5 & 6 2024, the Diocesan liturgical conference “The Epiphany of the Liturgy: Welcoming the Closeness of God” will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Victoria. This free​conference is an opportunity to enter into a richer experience of the Trinity in our Eucharistic Celebrations, and will be valuable both for those who serve in liturgical ministries and those who participate in the assembly.  The presenters will be Dr. Glenn Byer and Dr. David Pitt, liturgical and musical educators at Catholic colleges in the U.S. The workshop will run Friday, January 5 from 7 - 9:30 pm and Saturday, January 6 from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.  For more information and to register please visit ​https://EpiphanyLiturgyConference.eventbrite.com;​ for assistance in registering, please email ​mgwyn@rcdvictoria.org​ or call 250-479-1331 ext 227.
