CCCB: Message for the Month of Ramadan

Written by Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops | Feb 20, 2026 8:04:52 PM

The Holy See’s Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue has recently published a message for the month of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr.

This year, as Catholics journey through Lent, which leads to the celebration of Easter, they observe a period of fasting and penance alongside Muslims who are observing Ramadan.

“Through a providential convergence of calendars, Christians observe this period of fasting and devotion alongside you during the holy season of Lent, which leads the Church toward the celebration of Easter. During this spiritually intense period, we seek to follow God’s will more faithfully.”– excerpt from the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue Message.

On the basis of a common belief in one God, living and subsisting in Himself, merciful and all-powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), through its Episcopal Commission for Christian Unity, Religious Relations with the Jews, and Interfaith Dialogue and its other bodies or offices, maintains a longstanding relationship with Muslim leaders across Canada, including the Canadian Council of Imams. In addition, the CCCB, through its officially appointed representatives (Bishops or others), is one of the many national religious organizations participating in the National Muslim Christian Liaison Committee, which since 1971 has endeavoured to promote cooperation and respectful dialogue on matters of mutual concern between Muslims and Christians in Canada.
