News from the Chancery - August 22, 2025

Aug 22, 2025 8:48:37 AM

News from the Chancery is published each week to share information and upcoming events with the people of the Diocese of Victoria.

We have three items to share with you today:

1) Pope Leo XIV has invited the faithful to join him in a day of prayer and fasting for peace today, on Friday, August 22, the Feast of the Queenship of Mary. In the face of ongoing conflict and suffering in many regions of the world, let us turn to God with trust and ask Mary, Queen of Peace, to intercede for our troubled world. 2) The Diocesan Health Care Committee is offering its next series of free online Pastoral Care Outreach Training sessions via Zoom on Saturday mornings, 9:30–noon, from September 27 to November 29 (no session October 11). Participants will learn about deep listening and visiting the lonely, sick, elderly, and dying—in care facilities or at home—and for those who wish to learn how to accompany and care for their family and friends. Please register through your parish by September 16, 2025. For more information, contact Moira King at moiraking@shaw.ca.

3) All young adults are invited to the Franciscan Festival of Tents Retreat at Our Lady of Victory Camp in Alberta, August 29–September 1. Experience a weekend of faith, fellowship, and fun with Mass, reconciliation, talks, music, games, and more. The weekend cost is $125, with the option of a bunk bed or bringing your own tent.
