Every year, from January 18 to 25, Christians worldwide unite in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This cherished tradition is a time of shared prayer and reflection, bringing believers from different traditions together in faith and fellowship.
On January 19, 2025, St. Andrew's Cathedral in Victoria hosted a beautiful prayer service, warmly welcoming friends in faith from across Vancouver Island and the surrounding islands. It was a heartfelt and uplifting gathering, deepening our connection through the hope we share in Jesus Christ.
This year's theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, inspired by the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, is: “Do you believe this?” Inspired by John 11:26, this line of scripture invites us to explore the resurrection as the foundation of a living hope. It encourages us to embrace the joy of the resurrection and to live it out together, sharing it with one voice.
As we continue to embrace the joy of this week, let’s open our hearts to the unity Christ calls us to, celebrating our shared faith and hope with the world.
If you weren’t able to attend the service, there’s still time to participate in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity! Take a quiet moment this week to reflect on the Nicene Creed and pray for unity, celebrating the joy we have in Christ and the bond that connects us all.
Each year, the Canadian Council of Churches, including the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, adapts WPCU resources for the Canadian context. Find more information here: https://www.cccb.ca/media-release/the-week-of-prayer-for-christian-unity-2025/
