News from the Chancery is published each week to share information and upcoming events with the people of the Diocese of Victoria.

We have 4 items to share with you this week:

1) The planning committee for the​10th​Annual Family Life Conference and Camp is looking for volunteers to assist with the camp.  If interested in volunteering, please email ​familycamp@rcdvictoria.org​ for more information.

2) National Family and Life Week (NFLW) takes places this year from May 13 – 19, with the theme “Love hopes all things”.  Families are invited to cultivate, deepen, and renew Christian hope by drawing on scriptural reflection, family prayer, and the Sacraments.  The NFLW website has resources for families including daily prayers and activities and a catechesis with discussion questions.  For more information and to access the resources, please visit ​https://www.cccb.ca/faith-moral-issues/family-and-life/national-family-and-life-week/

3) The Canadian Christian Meditation National Conference Retreat will be held at the University of British Columbia from July 5-7, 2024. The theme this year is “From Anxiety to Peace”, and the retreat will be led by Fr. Laurence Freeman OSB, a monk of the Benedictine Congregation of Monte Oliveto Maggiore.  Both in-person and remote participation options are available.  For more information and to register, please visit ​https://www.wccm-canada.ca/.  The deadline to register for in-person participation is May 30.

4)​ Applications are now being accepted for bursaries and awards offered by the Diocese of Victoria to outstanding students and educators.  The deadline for applications is July 15th.  More information and application forms are available at the following links:

  • The Jawl Bundon LLP Bursary​($2500): for a grade 12 Catholic student who has been accepted to a post-secondary institution.  Preference will be given to Indigenous students, and to students who live outside of Greater Victoria and Nanaimo.
  • The Blessed Marie Anne Blondin Bursary​($1000): for a lay woman who is accepted or enrolled in a program or course for ministry in the Church, such as religious education, social justice, liturgy, social action, care of the sick, etc.
  • The Char Deslippe Memorial Award​($500): for a teacher working in Island Catholic Schools or a parish catechist serving in children, youth or adult ministry.
