Nov 20: Red Wednesday - Standing in Solidarity

Nov 13, 2024 10:30:00 AM

On November 20, the international Catholic aid organization, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), invites you to participate in Red Wednesday, an annual initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the persecution of Christians globally.

Millions of Christians live under constant threat of violence, oppression, and discrimination due to their faith. With 505 million Christians affected worldwide, Red Wednesday calls for us to stand up for their freedom and promote tolerance across religions.

Why Red Wednesday?

Red Wednesday’s colour, symbolizing martyrdom, is a visible statement of solidarity with those who suffer for their beliefs. By illuminating buildings, churches, and homes in red, we remind the world of the courage of those facing religious persecution. Not only does Red Wednesday aim to shed light on this issue, but also to foster respect and tolerance for all faiths.

How to Participate

Whether you’re an individual or part of a community, here are some impactful ways to support Red Wednesday:

- Illuminate Buildings in Red: Light up local churches, significant buildings, or even your home to visibly show support.

- Gather in Prayer: Unite in a Mass, vigil, or moment of prayer, remembering persecuted Christians.

- Wear Red: Wear red on November 20 to spread awareness and spark conversations about religious freedom.

- Raise Awareness Online: Share posts, images, and stories on social media using the hashtag #RedWednesday.

- Host Events: Organize a presentation, fundraiser, or prayer service to educate others and raise funds for affected communities.

Stand Up for Religious Freedom
Supporting persecuted Christians on Red Wednesday goes beyond showing solidarity; it’s a commitment to defending religious freedom for all. By joining in, you’re advocating for a world where all people can worship freely and without fear.

On November 20, take action through prayer, spreading awareness, or lighting a building red. Every small gesture reminds Christians worldwide that they are not alone in their faith and that we stand with them.
