In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Diocese has postponed the Bishop’s Gala for this year. Originally scheduled for May 2, we hope that we will be able to reschedule this happy event for the Fall.
Your support of the annual Gala has made a great difference to the remote First Nations communities. Last year, funds were raised to support the building of a new chapel in Ahousaht. As a result of the success of the 2019 Bishop’s Gala, the plans were finalized, the contract was signed, and building has begun.
We are pleased to report that the chapel components are being manufactured by a facility on the lower mainland, along with six housing units ordered by the Ahousaht Band Council. Many of the modular pieces for the houses and the chapel have been shipped to Ahousaht by barge, and all the modular pieces will be assembled on-site where finally, the finishing work will be completed.
Now, in order to protect the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Councillor Greg Louie has banned all access to Ahousaht. This bans all access of outside contractors to Ahousaht. As a result, work on the housing facilities and the chapel have been suspended. As soon as it is safe to do so, the project will be back on track. In the meantime, please enjoy photos of the building project, and a photo of Elder Louie Frank, Sister Lillia Semeniego RVM, and Sister Janet Bayron RVM in Ahousaht. Please keep the little community of Ahousaht in your prayers.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL IN THE FALL!!!!
