The Bishop's Appeal Supports:
Missions and Outreach
“Our hearts are full of gratitude to God expressed through the Annual Appeal its generous help to strengthen our Children and Youth Program. This contribution will surely go far in terms of the spiritual and social formation of the children and youth we are serving. God's generosity cannot really be outdone.”
– Sr. Bing Ferrandiz, RVM, Serving the First Nations Communities in the Cowichan Valley
Children and Youth Program at St. Ann’s Parish and Queen of Angels Elementary School, Duncan
"Your donation has allowed us to continue to provide our children an opportunity to participate in events/activities that support their development as individuals and as a social group. As Coordinator, it gives me a sense of HOPE that our Parish will grow and will continue to Celebrate the Eucharist with the First Nations People… The benefit of participating in the Children and Youth group is being together as a family. We learn and accept each other and we continue to nurture the culture of respect and dignity of each person…"
– Barbara Charlie, First Nation’s Children and Youth Co-ordinator
Pasobolong is a Catholic base community
Pasobolong is a Catholic base community and farm cooperative in Zamboanga City, Mindanao, Philippines which Fr. Rolf visited in 2013.
Through the Missionary Dominican Sisters of the Rosary in Pasobolong, Saanich Peninsula Parish is sponsoring local young women and men to acquire knowledge and skills for the benefit of the community as farmers, cooks, teachers, nurses, social workers, technology, etc. These young people are also visiting the lepers in a leprosarium near Pasobolong.
A women's cooperative produces items from the farm to be sold in local markets and stores.
Religious Education & Faith Formation
“Our diocese is vast and made up of unique communities of faith. It is through this diversity that Christ invites us to become a vibrant, cohesive Catholic family. It is an honour and privilege to support catechists and religious educators all across our diocese.”
– Gwen Jahelka, Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization
Sr. Lilia Semeniego, Administrator West Coast Missions and Gwen Jahelka, Director Religious Education and Faith Formation.
Improving Our Island Catholic Schools!
The Bishop’s Appeal has already supported significant improvements at St. Patrick’s and St. Joseph's Elementary Schools. The first phase of the St. Andrew’sHigh School project is finished with only the performing arts wing and the sports field upgrade remaining. “St. Andrew's school is known for its strong commitment to forming the whole person! Now is the time to upgrade our field and move our performing arts facility into the school to ensure we nurture the broad needs of today’s students and create tomorrow’s leaders.”
– Glen Palahicky, Principal, St. Andrew’s Regional High School
Many retired priests in our Diocese who have faithfully led parish communities depend on your generosity. We must take care of those who took care of us.
Local Parish Projects
When you support the Bishop’s Appeal you are supporting your own parish project that is unique to each parish.
In 2019 Diocesan Appeal monies for All Saints Catholic Parish were designated to replace the main hanging lights in St. Mary's Church in Ladysmith. With the training and rental of a tall ladder, parishioner Kevin Stark (our long-serving volunteer parish bookkeeper) is seen installing the LED lights, which are very economical, needing no replacement for the next 15 years. Thank you Kevin!
