History
In 1992, the Catholic community decided to rent space at the Lion’s Hall for weekly Mass. When two school annexes went up for sale, it was decided to purchase one to be converted into a Catholic Church. It cost about $6,000, was moved to its current location, and a kitchen added to it. On Christmas Eve of 1993, Fr. Miroslav Michalek celebrated the first Mass at St. Mary’s Church.
As the northern end of Vancouver Island becomes more of a tourist destination, St. Mary’s Church is enjoying the presence of more visitors. Coffee is served after each Mass and there is a breakfast every 4th Sunday of the month.
