From September 21 to 25, 2026, the Catholic bishops of Canada gathered in Montreal, Quebec, for the annual Plenary Assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Plenary Assembly is the principal deliberative and decision-making body of the Conference, bringing together bishops from across the country in prayer, discussion, and shared pastoral reflection.
Over the course of the week, the bishops considered matters concerning the Church’s mission in Canada that benefit from their common reflection and action at the national level. Please see the recap video summary for each day below.
Day 1:
The Assembly opened with the celebration of the Eucharist and the beginning of a week rooted in prayer and collegial discernment. From the outset, the bishops were invited to place their work before the Lord and to undertake their conversations in a spirit of communion.
The opening day also set the direction for the Assembly’s work. Through the President’s annual report and the letter sent to Pope Leo XIV, the bishops named both the hopes and the responsibilities shaping their common mission in the year ahead.
