Bishop Gary Gordon's Message on Lapu-Lapu Filipino Festival Tragedy

Apr 28, 2025 4:43:31 PM

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

My heart goes out to all the victims of the tragic events at the Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver, and to their grieving families and loved ones.

I pray for those who lost their lives, for those who were injured, and for all who witnessed such devastating violence. In moments like this, when sorrow and confusion weigh so heavily on our hearts, we are called to stand together in faith, lifting one another up in prayer and in love.

I also extend my deepest condolences to the wider community in Vancouver, and to our Filipino brothers and sisters here on Vancouver Island, who are mourning alongside their friends and families across the country.

Please know that you are not alone in your grief. Our Diocese stands with you, holding you in prayer, and trusting that Christ, who himself knew suffering, walks closely with each one of you now. May God grant comfort to the brokenhearted, healing to the injured, and peace to all who are in pain.

With prayers for comfort and peace,

Most Reverend Gary Gordon
Bishop of Victoria
