In his first encyclical letter titled, Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV calls for the safeguarding of humanity in the age of artificial intelligence. Recognizing AI and other technologies as the res novae of our time, The Holy Father reflects on the anthropological and ethical considerations of advanced technologies, and appeals for these tools to be used in service to humanity.
Published on Monday, May 25, 2026 the Pope signed the encyclical on May 15, the 135th anniversary of the promulgation of Pope Leo XIII’s Rerum novarum.
